Lounge Review: Veteran Owned Screaming Eagles Cigar Lounge is a “Must Stop” Cigar Destination

Tucked away in a strip mall that is just down the road from Fort Campbell, in Clarksville, TN, sits a large cigar shop. This isn’t just any cigar shop, either. With almost 5,000 sq. ft. Screaming Eagle Cigars is one of the largest cigar lounges in the Southern United States. With their proximity to Fort Campbell, it should come as no surprise that Screaming Eagle Cigars is combat veteran owned and operated. That should be evident in their name, and their décor will all but confirm that. That doesn’t mean that you have to be a military veteran to come in and enjoy a cigar.

Screaming Eagle Cigar prides themselves on more than their size, they focus on the communal aspect of cigars. They invite everyone to come in, sit down, enjoy a cigar, and be a member of their family. Play a friendly game of pool, throw a round or two of darts, enjoy a movie or sporting event on one of their tv’s, or belly up to the bar and enjoy a local craft beer. However you want to enjoy your cigar, Screaming Eagle Cigars has you covered.

FUN FACTS

THE LOCATION

I once again find myself in a strip mall, but you can not judge this book by its cover. Screaming Eagle Cigars is massive. Their lounge, game, and bar area is over 3500 sq. ft. To say it’s massive is an enormous understatement (pun intended). The location itself is perfectly placed for military personnel, just right down the road from Fort Campbell. For civilians, it’s a bit out of the way, but not a trek by any stretch of the imagination. Screaming Eagle Cigars is probably twenty minutes from Interstate 24, and about fifteen minutes from the main thoroughfare of Clarksville. There is plenty of parking that can accommodate a battalion of cars.

HUMIDOR

SELECTION/HUMIDOR SIZE
The humidor is really where Screaming Eagle Cigars shines. With over 1200 sq. ft. of space, Screaming Eagles Cigars has something for everyone. Their setup is unique, as the humidor has two separate rooms. The first room you enter in the humidor has a lot of Drew Estate, Padron, and Davidoff in it. As you pass through the first room, the humidor opens up to a massive room with a ton of selection. The floor shows the scars from their original humidor, and tells the story of their growth over the past seven years. Even the most grizzled aficionado would be taken aback by the sheer size and selection found at Screaming Eagles Cigar. Boutiques like Micallef, Foundations, Crowned Heads, and Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust join old favorites like Camacho, CAO, Montecristo, and Oliva. If you can’t find something to smoke in their humidor, you’re just being too picky.

THE LOUNGE

CUSTOMER SERVICE/STAFF KNOWLEDGE
Their staff is, in a word, amazing. They treat everyone as if they’re family. As you can imagine, Screaming Eagle Cigars has a lot of regulars and most of those are military, so I was apprehensive about how I would be treated. I am obviously not military, and my lack of a local accent immediately marks me as an out-of-towner…and a “yankee” to boot. That didn’t matter to the staff, not at all. They greeted me, walked me through the humidor, and talked about their selection. What they didn’t do was hover as I chose my cigars. Once they were done telling me about their humidor, they asked if I needed help selecting a cigar (which I politely declined), and they let me run around like a kid in a candy store eyeballing their entire inventory.

Once I made my purchase, I introduced myself and began talking with the staff. I was blown away by their level of knowledge. They get into the weeds, as they say, of the cigars and know about every brand and individual cigar they carry. On top of that, they have great relationships with all of the brands that they carry. Those relationships are what fuels their knowledge and they happily pass that on to their customers.

LOUNGE SIZE
Their lounge, as I’ve said, is just massive. It combines their bar and gaming areas, with a lot of comfortable chairs to sit down and relax in. Screaming Eagles Cigars has six big screen televisions that make sure there isn’t a bad seat in the house. If movies or sports aren’t your thing, you could always play some billiards on one of their two pool tables, or play some darts with your friends. They also pride themselves on using local craft beer brewed by veteran owned Tennessee Valley Brewing. Grab a beer and pop-a-squat in one of their comfortable, over-sized chairs. The majority of which, are arrange in a circle to promote a communal cigar experience. Just the way it should be.

AMBIANCE
The ambiance fits their location and theme of the lounge, and it is decidedly military/first responder oriented. For some, however, that may be an issue. The walls are adorned with flags, patches, and military artwork. They have flags and patches from military and first responders from all over the country. They also have Screaming Eagle merchandise and cigar accessories around the room. The six large televisions were never at a volume level that would hinder conversation, which is a huge plus in my book.

RATING & FINAL THOUGHTS

HUMIDOR EXPERIENCE
The humidor experience at Screaming Eagle Cigars is one of the better ones that I’ve had. Beyond their level of customer service, their sheer selection is almost insane. The only other humidor that I’ve personally been in that is larger is Corona Cigar Co. in Orlando. The level of customer service found at Screaming Eagle Cigars is second to none, and ranks as one of the better experiences that I’ve had.

LOUNGE EXPERIENCE
The lounge experience is unique and decidedly military, which plays to their background and clientele. While I felt at home this could be off-putting to those who have a differing view of national politics. Politics aside, the lounge is spacious, comfortable, and more than welcoming to anyone regardless of their personal views. In fact, discussions involving politics is very frowned on.
