Project CY (Cigar Year)

Have you ever wondered what happens to your cigars over time while they rest in your humidor? Well, we have and back in 2018 when two Brothers of the Leaf (BotL) were enjoying cigars and good company while bouncing ideas back and forth. Project Cigar Year (CY) was born.

So what is Project CY? We’re glad you asked. Project CY is a simple review process done over the course of a single year to see how (or if) the cigar changes over time.

Here’s how it works:

1. A five-er (5 pack) of cigars is selected. They must come from the same box. The cigars chosen must be regular production cigars at the time of being selected. Cigars relevant to other reviews, articles and stories on simplystogies.com should be chosen when possible.

2. The selected cigars will be removed from the cello if provided and stored in a “Herf-a-Dor” 40 count travel humidor. The humidor will be maintained as close to 65 degrees Fahrenheit and 65% relative humidity as possible.

3. The first cigar will be smoked and reviewed within the first week or two of being put in the humidor. We’ll call this one RotT (Right off the Truck).

4. The four remaining cigars will be smoked and reviewed at three month intervals or quarters. We’ll call these by their quarters: Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4.
